Medical Camp In Brahmana Kodur village on July 6th
We had the fortune of arranging a free medical camp at Brahmana Kodur on the 6th July 2014. It was done under the auspices of Sri Satya Sai Seva Samithi, Guntur. A total of ten expert doctors in the areas of Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, ENT, Dental, Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopedics, General surgery and General medicine had participated to treat nearly 320 poor patients from Brahmana Kodur and the surrounding villages!!
In the preceding week, Sri Dasari Hanumantha Rao garu, Gunturi Nageswar Rao (Babu) and Gunturi KalyanRam had visited the village a few times, to work with the Ramineni family and the local devotees to fix the venue and make all the needed arrangements. They had also arranged for communication about this upcoming camp to the villagers, through brochures and also recorded announcements made from a running Auto Rikshaw.
The day started with Nagara Sankirtana by Sri Satya Sai devotees, followed by Prashanti flag hoisting and worshipping the Lord. Then the doctors and the volunteers had a delicious breakfast served by the Ramineni family. Immediately the medical camp had started at 10 am at the local Government Elementary school.
Villagers started lining up one by one, as the volunteers took care of registration and distribution of free medicines while the doctors continuously examined the patients and prescribed treatment. For those patients who needed immediate surgeries, the respective doctors came forward and offered to perform those surgeries shortly in Guntur, free of charge!
On behalf of our Madhavapeddi family, Kasi Viswanatha Shastry (Chinna Vissi) came along with his son Dr, Aditya, who is a cardiologist at NIMS. Dr.Aditya's contribution was very very valuable and was much appreciated by the needy villagers! On behalf of Gunturi family, Dr. Anasuya (daughter of KalyanRam) was also present.
While the medical camp was going on, a group of Sai volunteers worked with the local children and held a Balvikas session in the Nagarupamma temple premises. Another group of volunteers went door to door to inform the villagers once again, about the medical camp.
The villagers were overwhelmed by this whole event and were moved by the fact that so many Sai volunteers had come to help them so selflessly. They were particularly appreciating the Madhavapeddi/Gunturi families for organizing and financing this entire event, Even the village children made cute posters welcoming doctors and nurses and put those up at the medical camp entrance!
At the end of the camp, a sumptuous lunch was served again by the Ramineni family to the doctors and volunteers while Sri Dasari Hanumantha Rao garu arranged for prasadam packets for all the patients who attended the camp.
At the end of the day, all the participants came away with deep satisfaction of being able to serve those needy villagers in our own small way. We also felt inspired to do more community service like this, in future!
