Information on our house inheritance and renovation
One of the first tasks that we had undertaken after moving to Guntur, was to renovate our ancestral home (originally built in 1954) in Brodipet. This was the house where Ram's parents lived for many years and it is also where we stayed from 1980 to 83, just before migrating to the U.S.A.
We have very fond memories of those years, when our daughters were little and all the four of us used to go around the town on a two-wheeler!

When we had this idea of renovation, we were introduced to a well known builder named Mr. Kutumba Rao by one of our cousins. We signed the contract with him and the work got started immediately. Another cousin of Vijaya's named Seetha from Hyderabad is an architect and she provided some wonderful ideas to give the ancient house an elegant new look. |
During the course of this work, we got to know Mr. Kutumba Rao better, day by day. Once during a casual conversation, he asked us how we were related to our cousin who was one of his good friends. When we explained that our fathers were brothers, he asked us about one Mr.Madhavapeddi Satyanarayana Murthy who worked as a chief engineer in Vijayawada. When Vijaya told him
that he was her father, Mr.Rao was pleasantly surprised! He explained that many years ago, when he was still a struggling young builder, he approached Vijaya's uncle Mr. Radhakrishna Murthy garu, to grant him an opportunity to build new structures at a local college. Then apparently Vijaya's uncle sent him to Vijaya's father, requesting him to interview Mr. Rao and see if he was worthy of this major contract. So Vijaya's father took the time to meet with this young and enterprising engineer from Guntur. After interviewing him thoroughly, he recommended Mr. Rao very highly for the contract and even gave him some very helpful career advice. In the process, Mr.Rao was also very impressed
by Vijaya's father who was an eminent engineer and started feeling that he was a mentor!
Thus Mr.Rao still remembered Vijaya's father with a lot of respect and felt that our house renovation project was giving him an opportunity to express his gratitude to Vijaya's father. He worked tirelessly almost for six months and transformed the primitive building into a very attractive and elegant house. This experience made us realize how the benefit of our elders' good deeds gets passed on to us!
We were also fortunate to have our Guru Sri Viswayogi Viswamji Maharaj visit our house and bless us as
soon as it got ready for Grihapravesham. |
